Careers Event at Oasis Academy Shirley Park

On Thursday 23rd April 2026, officers from the Addiscombe East and Addiscombe West Safer Neighbourhoods Teams attended a careers event at Oasis Academy Shirley Park. 

This was a fantastic opportunity for officers to engage with young people in the community and answer any questions the students had about the police. 

Officers were able to engage with young people who shared an interest in the emergency services; but also speak to students more generally about what the role looks like, as well as to address any concerns they may have. There were some extremely promising and enlightening conversations whereby young people were able to learn a bit more, form first hand accounts, of what day-to-day policing looks like and how the police seeks to help the community.

Creating positive relationships with key community stakeholders, such as schools, is key as a neighbourhood police officer and it provides invaluable connections for safeguarding, crime prevention and detection, and offering further points of trusted contact within the community.

Officers will certainly be looking to participate in future events like this within the community.
